Video: STOP ME / Live in Beirut
January 25th, 2012This video was shot by Beirut.com during Slutterhouse’s album launch concert for ANOTHER LIE. The event was organized by The Basement and was part of the C U NXT SAT parties.
Beirut. January 21. Be There.
January 11th, 2012Concert Postponed Until January 21
December 27th, 2011I have spent the past few days giving a lot of thought before I was able to release this statement. But now I’m sure about what I want and so I am ready to share it.
I take my job very seriously. I feel blessed to be able to do what I do, and I do not take it lightly at all. I feel blessed to be surrounded by amazing supporters and fans who make every single negative thing about this business worth the trip. In return, I want to be able to give you everything I got every time I step on that stage. And the reason why we limit our concerts in Lebanon to one per year is because it is very hard for me to find myself physically and psychologically ready to get up there and know that I will be able to give you my best.
And I don’t feel ready this time. I know myself and I don’t want everybody to come on Friday night and risk having me not showing up because I won’t be feeling good. Or even worse, risk giving you a bad or sloppy performance only because the date was set and I had to do it no matter what. The fact is, I do not have to do it no matter what. Lately I have been abusing myself physically and psychologically and I’m simply not ready to face you right now.
Concerts are meant to be fabulous. Or postponed.
I’m just sorry to let everybody down. I want to thank my supportive and precious band mates. I want to thank the Basement management for being so understanding. And I want to thank you for baring with me. I am doing this out of respect for you, because I want to be able to give you my best. And I promise that a Slutterhouse concert will happen within a few weeks from now, on the 21st of January 2012. I promise.
Peace on you and everyone you love.
See you soon x

October 3rd, 2011Coincidence? Not so sure. Especially if we take in consideration the huge international noise that the No Rights No Women campaign made last March 2011. In any case, I think it is safe to say that my beautiful team ate Olivier Zahm’s alive on this one.

August 30th, 2011Latest artistic crush: Strangers’ “In Chaos”
August 26th, 2011
My love for dark pop is no secret to anyone. In fact, we have been having diverging opinions during our last few studio sessions about whether or not to include one of the new songs on the album, and the song happens to be very reminiscent of Depeche Mode’s dark pop. My band mate believes – and he is right about that – that it will be the least original track on the album, that it’s not fresh nor adventurous enough, at least nothing compared to the rest of the very exciting new material.
I can’t argue with that, but I simply cannot help it but love the song. It’s one of the tracks that are the closest to my heart and it really means a lot for me to have it on there. It’s personal, we can’t argue with emotions.
I have stumbled upon a new band today: Strangers. I love Twitter for this kind of discoveries. These boys make no compromise: it’s dark pop in its purest form, and I love it. Check out the video of my favorite song In Chaos below.
Children Against Cancer – Be there!

The date is Monday the 22nd of August. Check the details on the poster below, get your tickets, and be there for a fun night supporting a great cause.

Latest artistic crush: Emeli Sande’s “Heaven”
August 11th, 2011
One of our favorite tweeps Shannon sent us a link to Emeli Sande’s new single “Heaven” last week, and I have been in love since. I remember listening to it for the first time: the epic synthesizer intro was enough to get me curious. Then the drum beat kicked in and I felt disoriented for a few seconds – the 90s beat was far from what I was expecting. But then Emeli started singing, and it all made sense again. Beautiful voice, beautiful words, beautiful melodies, beautiful everything.
Listen and enjoy the video below.

August 3rd, 2011Morrissey, the Norway massacre, and Speciecism
July 28th, 2011
This post is destined to try to explain Morrissey’s point of view and hopefully make his message clearer, thus not as offensive as you may think it is.
First thing you need to do when you hear Morrissey say something like that is remember to not take it personally. It is not personal. I am sure the man is very saddened and troubled by the horrible Norway massacre. His initiative only serves to create enough scandal and provocation in order for him to be able to convey another message.
In Morrissey’s mind – and in most animal rights activists – a human life does not have more value than an animal life. Very simply, if we consider both animals and human beings as earthlings (inhabitants of planet earth) without discrimination, the Norway massacre would indeed be nothing compared to daily animal slaughter and torture. It’s a simple matter of numbers: around 90 humans were killed in Norway, but hundreds of millions of animals are killed everyday.
What Morrissey and animal rights activists in general denounce is what we call speciecism: it’s a form of discrimination that believes that the lives of the different species on earth do not have the same value. Just as a racist believes that a white man’s life is worth more than a black man’s; Western media believes that Israeli blood is more valuable than Palestinian blood; or just as sexists believe that a man’s life is worth more than a woman’s; a speciecist believes that human life has more value than any other specie’s.

In terms of ethical evolutions, we have reasons to believe that after having fought – and still are fighting – against racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, the current most important and only logical fight is the one against speciecism.
Because we believe that morality starts with the way we as human beings treat other animals. Because if we believe that we are intelligent and free, we are also responsible. The good old lion that kills the gazelle is not a criminal because he does not chose to kill, his action is not premeditated: it is only dictated by his natural instincts.
But the animal slaughtering factories are not instinctive, nor is the massive overproduction that causes the cruel torture and killing of hundreds of millions of animals everyday, only to end up throwing more than 70% of the production, gone to waste. We are not denouncing the shepherd who has to kill one of his sheep to survive. It is a different story, we know it, you all know it, no matter how hypocritical you try to be.
It is only natural to feel more affected by the death of someone who we feel is “closer” to us. Which is why it is natural for most human beings to feel more affected by the death of another human being than by the death of a cow. It is the same logic that makes it that one feels more affected by the death of a relative than by the death of the poor African children. This is the reign of the heart, and one does not have any control over it.
But the heart should not be an excuse for us to not take a step back and think about who we are and how we behave. It is unacceptable to still see ourselves as superior, because no matter how we turn it, the criteria of superiority will always be determined by ourselves. They are not natural, nor are they objective. If our superiority is a “fact” – meaning that, we do what we do because we can do it – then this same logic should be applied when it comes to human beings amongst themselves as well. The strong guy should be then allowed to enslave the weak handicapped guy. Because he can do it: it’s a fact. No excuse.
Humanism is pure hypocrisy when it doesn’t take a step further and fight against speciecism.
I strongly recommend that you take 95 useful minutes of your precious time and watch the amazing documentary Earthlings below. It is narrated by Joaquin Phoenix, the music is by Moby, and the footage is as real as it comes.

July 14th, 2011Whatever happened to Jamelia?
July 14th, 2011Somewhere in the mid 2000s I fell in love with Jamelia’s hit “Superstar”. I also fell in love with Jamelia herself, before forgetting all about her. A couple of days ago I was sipping on a few drinks in some random bar in Beirut and the song came on: it made me the happiest guy on earth. “Superstar” has been looping in my ipod since.
On a side note, I was also thrilled to find out that Jamelia shares my passion for animals and my allergy against fur – check out this campaign she did for PETA a few years ago.
